John Carroll

John CarrollJohn Carroll is president and founder of Moss Hollow Solar, LLC.  His passion for the environment started at an early age as a teen-aged volunteer of the Student Conservation Association, building trails in Rocky Mountain National Park.

Mr. Carroll earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, graduating with honors.  Following graduation, Mr. Carroll worked for Digital Equipment Corporation as a construction project manager where he was involved in the construction of over 1 million square feet of commercial office, and manufacturing space and was responsible for installing a number of power generation systems.  While at Digital, Mr. Carroll pioneered several environmentally friendly projects:  He developed a program for treating cooling towers for Legionaries disease, with ozone, eliminating chemical treatments which included the use of toxic biocides and cancer causing chromates.  Mr. Carroll also constructed the second Fixed Activated Sludge Treatment de-nitrification waste water treatment facility in the country, a technology that has since gained widespread acceptance.

Following his employment at Digital, Mr. Carroll spent several years as an Operations Manager at a small utility in Massachusetts.  He managed four of the company’s business divisions.  This included the operation of a 360,000 gallon LPG plant, a 60,000 gallon LNG plant, and the company’s 27 mega-Watt power generation plant.  Mr. Carroll successfully managed the clean up and closure of countless contaminated sites for the company and also served as the company’s representative on the New England Power Pool’s - Operations and Executive Committee boards.

Mr. Carroll resides in Lunenburg, Massachusetts on a small family farm equipped with a photovoltaic (PV) renewable energy system.  He and his family are active volunteers and supporters of local schools, youth sports, 4H, and other agricultural programs.  Mr. Carroll also serves on the Board of Trustees for the Stetson School in Barre, Massachusetts.

Mr. Tiano holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Boston University, a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Weber State College in Utah, and a Master's of Education in Counseling from Wayne State University in Michigan.

He taught high school for 6 years, then turned to the high tech industry where he worked in purchasing as a buyer, commodity manager, and new products sourcing manager. As his career advanced, he worked in management overseeing several groups including CAD tool administration and maintenance, documentation, component engineering, information technology, laboratory, and asset management. Before joining Moss Hollow Solar, Mr. Tiano managed operations, technical services and became a staff manager for 3 company vice presidents.

Mr. Tiano comes from a family of hard working tradesmen including a plumber, electrician and carpenters; and he worked in all of those trades in his youth.

He served for four years in the Air Force stationed in Italy. Mr. Tiano is the father of two daughters and resides with his wife in Acton Massachusetts.
